Due to the rapid growth of the demand for microbiological products that can replace mineral fertilizers and plant protection products in agriculture and the expansion of the export geography, the Lithuanian company "Nando" is investing more than 2 million euros in a unique biotechnology line. This investment will increase existing production volumes, productivity and maintain competitive product prices to meet growing market needs.

About biotech line

The goal is to implement a high-level automated biotechnological production line. By installing new production capacities, company will increase the added value created by the biotechnology sector in Lithuania and contribute to the faster development of sustainable and economically beneficial technologies in the agriculture of Europe and other continents. The industrial biotechnology line, featuring a unique microorganism purification technology, will be unique not only in Lithuania, but also in the Baltic countries. The technology will make it possible to make the production of microbiological products of high performance and high stability of the powdered fraction more efficient.

The total value of investments in these renovation processes will reach more than 2 million euros in two years. Modernization of production includes the cultivation and purification processes of both microorganisms and microscopic fungi. Planning and preparation for its creation lasted three years. The project implemented in the context of this development is partially financed by the financial mechanisms of the Norway grant (the project value is more than 1.2 million euros). Together with Nando, SINTEF Industry will work on the project - an outstanding scientific research center not only in the Nordic countries, but also on a European scale.

BIOLOGICAL PRODUCTS

Organic products are particularly important in agriculture and food supply chains, as they can partially replace conventional mineral fertilisers and plant protection products, as well as substantially improving soil properties, nutrient availability, drought tolerance of plants, their use reduces CO2 emissions and fixes organic carbon in the soil. As the products do not use many third-country raw materials, their production and use shortens the supply of chains and contributes to national security
